Jack Nicholson double feature –
The Shining: The film tells the story of a writer, Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), who accepts the job of the winter caretaker at a hotel that always gets snowed in during the winter. While his family looks around the hotel during the day the hotel staff leave, Danny's psychic, or "shining," abilities are discovered by the hotel chef. The shining is the ability to see things in the future or past, such as the ghosts of murdered people in the hotel. When the hotel becomes snowbound, Jack Torrance trades his soul for a drink, and, on the advice of a ghostly butler who did the same, tries to murder his wife and son.
The Trip: in this drama, Groves (Peter Fonda) takes his first dose of LSD while experiencing the heartbreak and ambivalence of divorce from his beautiful but wife, played by adulterous Susan Strasberg. He starts his trip with a "guide," John (Bruce Dern), from whom out of fear, Groves runs away and abandons. As Groves experiences his trip, he wanders around the Sunset Strip, intonightclubs, and the homes of strangers and acquaintances, he considers the roles played by commercialism, sex, the role of women in his life. This film was written by a young (Jack Nicholoson.)
