Todd English P.U.B. First in Nevada to Debut Cask Beer Firestone Walker Unfiltered Double Barrel Ale Now Available
Todd English P.U.B., the latest concept by four-time James Beard Award-winning celebrity chef Todd English, located at Crystals CityCenter, has expanded its beverage menu to include cask ale. Firestone Walker Unfiltered Double Barrel Ale is now available for purchase, making Todd English P.U.B. the first establishment in the state of Nevada to serve cask beer.
“Cask beer, or ale, is very common in a traditional pub and in order to give Todd English P.U.B. authenticity, we had to bring cask ale to the Vegas strip,” said Kelley Jones, managing partner of Todd English P.U.B. “Before now, no one imported this type of beer here. It was a six-month process but we are excited to debut the cask beer and would like to thank our good friends at Southern Wine and Spirits for all their help in making this possible, “ Jones continued. “We are currently working with them to procure other types of cask ale for the P.U.B. as well.”
Cask ale, or cask-conditioned beer, is the term for unpasteurized beer, which is conditioned and served unfiltered from a cask without additional nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure. Metal beer kegs feature a concave bottom while the barrel design allows yeast to be retained in the cask. Because the yeast is still alive, a slow process of fermentation continues in the cask on the way to the consumer, allowing the beer to retain its freshness. In order to get the beer out of a keg and into a glass, it must be forced out with gas pressure, where cask ale should be served without the aid of added carbon dioxide.
Firestone Walker Unfiltered Double Barrel Ale is an English pale ale from California that pairs well with Indian, Mediterranean or Middle Eastern cuisines, as well as a variety of sharp and peppery cheeses and various meats. Served in a pint glass at 45-50 degrees, this particular ale has a cascading white head on a bright apricot body with golden highlights around the edges and decent lacing around the glass. With a faint smell of brown bread and oak, this mild beer has unique flavor patterns with pine and floral hops that exude a slight bitterness. Firestone Walker Unfiltered Double Barrel Ale feels oily in the mouth, with very little carbonation. This ale has been described as “cognac-like, without the burn” and is medium-bodied and buttery.
