Lok Sabha Election, 3rd Phase Polling Starts


New Delhi: Polling in the third phase of elections to Lok Sabha began on a moderate note on Thursday during which the fate of prominent leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, L K Advani and H D Deve Gowda will be decided.

Voting began this morning in 107 constituencies spread across nine states and two union territories in the third round of the five-phased elections and would end at 1700 hrs.

A total of 1,567 candidates, including 101 women, are fighting for 107 seats in this phase. Polling is also underway for the 32-member Sikkim legislative Assembly.

Over 14.4 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise across 1.65 lakh booths, where ballots would be cast electronically.

While Congress president Sonia Gandhi is seeking re-election from Rae Bareli, one of the traditional constituencies of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Advani, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, is bidding to hold on to the Gandhinagar seat as he has done in every election since 1991.

Prominent candidates in the fray in the third phase include former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, JD-U chief Sharad Yadav, Congress’ Milind Deora, Priya Dutt and Jyotiraditya Scindia and former Karnataka chief minister S Bangarappa.

Tight security arrangements have been put in place to thwart any untoward incident.

Polling for 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat will be completed at one go. Besides Gujarat, polling will be held in 16 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 15 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in West Bengal, 11 each in Bihar and Karnataka, 10 in Maharashtra and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

UP Chief Minister Mayawati was among the early voters who cast their ballots in the third phase of polls.

Accompanied by senior BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra and party candidate from Lucknow Akhilesh Das Gupta, Mayawati cast her vote at Lucknow’s Montessori College.

Sikkim has 32 assembly seats, of which one is reserved for the Sangha monks, who number 3,058.

The results will be out on May 16. The five-round general elections began on April 16 and so far elections have been completed to 265 Lok Sabha seats of the 545-member lower house of Parliament.

Elections are held to only 543 seats, as two members are nominated from the Anglo-Indian community.

Alicia Jacobs is Channel's 3 Entertainment Reporter. She has interviewed the "A Listers" in Hollywood and Music. Not only that but she is a tremendous supporter of animal charities and foundations (four paws up from Lola Belle!) With all of this expertise and also with her pageant background Miss Nevada USA and Miss United States; it was a natural fit for her to be a judge for this year's Miss USA beauty pageant.


How excited were you to be a judge for Miss USA?

I was so thrilled to judge Miss USA! As a former title holder, it's an unbelievable honor to be asked to sit at that judges table...I felt as though I had truly come full circle. I'm such a geek, that I actually got choked up when the telecast started!


What were your thoughts when Perez Hilton introduced himself as thebiggest ..... at the breakfast meeting?
Myself, as well as everyone else in the room just busted out laughing. It was soooo early in the morning, & a rather serious meeting. Truthfully, I always think humor is a great thing to bring to almost any moment. You kinda had to be there to truly appreciate how funny it was!

How hard do you think is was for Miss California to answer thatquestion?

I think it was pretty tough for all 5 of the finalists to answer their particular question. I definitely felt that Miss North Carolina did the best job answering. Often times, contestants think they have to "out-do" the other women, & that's when they usually say too much, or even worse, ramble. I think Miss Ca. fell into that trap. She started off ok...& she should have quit while she was ahead. For me, as a judge, it was her lack of articulation rather than the content of her answer I found troubling.


What is your fondest memory of being a contestant?
Well, without question, my #1 fondest memory is of course the moment my name was announced as the winner! That's a feeling that can never be equaled. The other highlights include all of the people I met during my reign. It was the greatest learning experience of my life. It absolutely prepared me for the career I have today.

Who was your favorite?
My favorite was probably Miss Tennessee, but she didn't make it past the top 10. Of the 5 finalists, I saw Miss North Carolina as the best all-around "package." Kristen Dalton is beautiful, good heart, physically fit, & extremely well-spoken...the perfect Miss USA.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway to host Corporate Challenge events
Las Vegas Motor Speedway will welcome local companies and more than 1,500 of their employees for the Las Vegas Corporate Challenge Walk and Bike Race, April 28-29. The walk will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and the bike race will take place on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Each event will feature participants from several major Las Vegas corporations.
Corporate Challenge provides a healthy way for local companies and their employees to stay active in the community while adding a social component for those that want to sit on the sidelines and cheer on their colleagues. The event brings the spirit of the Olympics to a local and more intimate playing field. Corporate Challenge offers 33 different events throughout the Las Vegas area during a 12-week period. Events began in March and will continue through the second week of June 2009.
“The City of Las Vegas is fortunate to have such partners as Las Vegas Motor Speedway to host the Corporate Challenge Walk and Bike Race,” said City of Las Vegas Corporate Challenge Coordinator Andrea Anzalone. “Through their generosity we are able to offer two events, have 1,500 participants and are able to improve the quality of life of professionals in the Las Vegas Valley.”

Most recently she moved back to New York City where she performed her one woman show “Tales of a PT&A Mom” at Gotham Comedy Club and the 45th St. Theatre. Montgomery is a regular performer at most New York comedy clubs including Dangerfield’s and the Laugh Factory. Meanwhile over at the Palms plenty was going on this week-end! Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather dined at N9NE Steakhouse inside Palms Casino Resort Sunday night (4.26.09). Dressed in jeans, a white shirt and a diamond necklace, he sat in the main dining room and feasted on a variety of appetizers, including the mini shellfish platter, the signature rock shrimp, steak fries and chicken nuggets made exclusively for his visit by Executive Chef Barry Dakake. Mayweather enjoyed the apple pie for dessert.

Over at Playboy Club, Miss Playboy Alison Waite (May 2006) announced Victoria Moore as the winner of Miss Playboy Club April. Moore celebrated her new title alongside Waite and Kasey Unroe, Miss Playboy Club March.

On Saturday night (4.25.09), boxing champion Ricky Hatton dined at Nove Italiano with a group of six. The party shared family-style appetizers sent out by Executive Chef Geno Bernardo. Hatton also made his way into the kitchen, said hello to the staff and signed Chef Geno’s door.

Sunday at TAO Beach proved to be a great weekend wrap-up for notable names. Actress Jamie King continued the weekend celebration of her 30th birthday with a relaxing afternoon in a cabana. Donning a black floral Cynthia Vincent sun dress, she began the day with birthday cake, then continued to satisfy her sweet tooth with Red Mango frozen yogurt, a TAO Beach exclusive. Jamie and husband Kyle Newman were thrilled to see it on the menu as they are investors in the wildly popular company. Even all of the sweets couldn’t keep the birthday girl from slipping off her sundress to reveal her model body clad in a pink bikini. After taking in some rays on a daybed with her husband and friends including actor Jsu Garcia and singer/songwriter Nat Sharrat, she returned to the privacy of her cabana for a massage to relax, with plans to round out the weekend with a Sunday night dinner at LAVO.
Also spotted in a cabana at TAO Beach was Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger. The brunette bombshell shaded herself from the sun in a floppy straw hat, sunglasses and a sheer black cover-up over a black bikini.
House music phenom Yves Larock spun a killer set for a packed crowd and performed hit club track “Rise Up.”

What Celebrities were up to this week-end Las Vegas!

Celebrities in town this week-end were also spotted at...

Actor and comedian Pauly Shore dined at N9NE Steakhouse inside Palms Casino Resort Saturday night (4.25.09). He sat in the lounge with a friend around 11:30 p.m. and enjoyed a glass of wine, accompanied with the signature rock shrimp and spice crusted big tuna. Shore then made his way over to Playboy Club with his manager and two friends. They sat at a table and drank Ketel One. He was seen taking photos with a few fans.


Also at Playboy Club was Emmy Award nominated actor Masi Oka and actor best known for his role in the hit TV series, Heroes, Milo Anthony Ventimiglia. The two partied with eight others, drank Ketel One and cranberry and joked amongst themselves for most of the night.


Wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Jr. hung out at Playboy Club with his wife and two friends. They enjoyed a couple rounds of drinks.


Kenny Chesney was also spotted inside ghostbar Friday night joined by a group of friends at a VIP table.

DJ AM...AT work at Rain..Packed the House!




On Friday night (4.24.09) N9NE Group and Palms Casino Resort welcomed new resident DJ and turntable phenom DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) at Rain Nightclub. DJ AM played into the night for a packed crowd. Recognized for being home to the legendary Paul Oakenfold and his weekly Saturday night production, “Perfecto Las Vegas,” Rain Nightclub now houses two of the largest deejay residencies in the nation under one roof with the addition of DJ AM.

PURE Nightclub hosted the most incredible party on the Las Vegas Strip last night as the Pussycat Dolls strutted their way down the red carpet and into the nation’s number one hot spot for the ultimate after concert soiree. Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt were joined by the creator of the Pussycat Dolls, Robin Antin, and the beautiful ladies reveled in the spotlight from two tables on the main VIP stage. Waving to fans and dancing with friends and family, the girls each enjoyed couture lollipops from the Sugar Factory as they sipped on Grey Goose Vodka cocktails and Moet Rose Champagne until the early morning hours.




Also choosing PURE at her Saturday night party spot was American Idol’s season eight “Bikini Girl,” Katrina Darrell, who spent the evening with her best friend, mingling with friends and fans alike.

Toasting the night with Veuve Cliquot Champagne, Lee and his special lady were joined by a small group of friends and family including close pal and System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan.



Former NBA player Antoine Walker was also spotted living the good life inside the dance palace as he and his crew enjoyed Patron Tequila and Grey Goose Vodka and partied hard all night long.

Interesting Pic of the Day..Cat's Eye Nebula



Usually it is a cute picture of an animal, but I think that on Sunday it might be nice to change it up! This is a picture that was taken by the Hubble Telescope in 1995; NGC 6543 is easily one of the most compex nebula ever soon. It is estimated that it is over 1,000 years old and is a visual "fossil" of the dynamics and late eveolution of a dying star.
